Southern Maine Blanks Men's Tennis In Conference Opener

GORHAM, Maine – In the 2015 Little East Conference opener men's tennis dropped a 9-0 decision to the reigning Little East Conference Tournament champion Huskies of the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon.

With the loss, the Beacons dropped to 1-7 on the year, and 0-1 in the Little East Conference.  For the Huskies they improved to 5-2 overall, 1-0 in the conference.

The Huskies made quick work of the Beacons in doubles play as they earned 8-1 victories at first and second flight.  In the third flight, Southern Maine defeated UMass by the final of 8-2.

Moving into singles play senior Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) played a tough first set with Tyler Adams.  Adams would go on to earn a 6-4 decision, before taking a 6-1 win in the second set.  Austin DeLasse (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tried to battle back from a 6-1 loss in the first set, but fell just short in the second set as he fell 6-4.

From there, the Huskies would earn decisive victories in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth flights to earn the 9-0 decision.

The Beacons return to action on Thursday when they host Suffolk University at 3 p.m.
