GORHAM, Maine – In the 2015 Little East Conference opener men's tennis dropped a 9-0 decision to the reigning Little East Conference Tournament champion Huskies of the University of Southern Maine Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Beacons dropped to 1-7 on the year, and 0-1 in the Little East Conference. For the Huskies they improved to 5-2 overall, 1-0 in the conference.
The Huskies made quick work of the Beacons in doubles play as they earned 8-1 victories at first and second flight. In the third flight, Southern Maine defeated UMass by the final of 8-2.
Moving into singles play senior Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) played a tough first set with Tyler Adams. Adams would go on to earn a 6-4 decision, before taking a 6-1 win in the second set. Austin DeLasse (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tried to battle back from a 6-1 loss in the first set, but fell just short in the second set as he fell 6-4.
From there, the Huskies would earn decisive victories in the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth flights to earn the 9-0 decision.
The Beacons return to action on Thursday when they host Suffolk University at 3 p.m.
