HUMACAO, Puerto Rico--In their final match of four in Puerto Rico, UMass Boston men's tennis (1-6) dropped their sixth-straight match, with a 9-0 loss at the hands of Massachusetts neighbor Babson College (5-2) at the Palmas Athletic Club.
Despite being separated by less than 30 miles, the two non-conference neighbors played for the first and only time this season in a venue more than 1,600 miles from Boston.
Babson opened the match by winning 24 of 25 doubles games to easily earn a 3-0 advantage after doubles play.
The Beacons would be slightly more competitive in singles action, with junior Greg Fleming (Harwich Port, Mass.) putting up the most resistance. Fleming fell 6-1, 6-3 at number three singles to Babson's Roy Murdock.
Senior Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) was the only other Beacon to win more than one game in singles, as the senior fell 6-1, 6-1 at number one singles.
UMass Boston will look to pick up their first win in 2015 next Thursday, as they are scheduled to take on Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30 p.m.
