BOSTON, Mass.—UMass Dartmouth (4-6, 2-3 Little East) rallied from a 4-1 deficit to earn a 5-4 victory over UMass Boston womens' tennis (2-8, 1-6 Little East) Monday afternoon at the B.C. High Tennis Courts.
The Beacons took two of three doubles points and looked to be on their way to a sure-fire victory after taking the first two singles points with ease. UMass Dartmouth responded though with a sweep of the final four singles matches, including a big comeback at number four singles to earn their 12th-straight victory over UMass Boston.
Freshman Martina Daelli (Florence, Italy) and Kristy Garcia (Miami, Fla.) each went a perfect 2-0 on the afternoon to push their team-leading totals to 10 victories on the year.
Co-captains Kelsey Shea (West Bridgewater, Mass.) and Logan Smith (Southwick, Mass.) combined for the Beacons' only other point of the day, with the two rallying for a 9-7 victory at number two doubles.
UMass Dartmouth's Mollie McCaffrey and Kristen Rose each finished 2-0 for the visitors, while Kheyla Orival added a huge win at number four singles to help UMass Dartmouth improve to 2-3 in conference play.
The Beacons' top doubles pair of Daelli and Garcia easily cruised to an 8-3 victory over Maggie LeBrun and Kerry Magoon to open the match.
After dropping the third doubles point, UMass Boston responded with a 9-7 win at number two doubles, as Shea and Smith outlasted Rosalie Kimba and Jillian Reichert.
Daelli pushed the lead to 3-1 for UMass Boston with a dominant 6-2, 6-2 win over Little East Conference Rookie of the Week Kerry Magoon.
UMass Boston tacked on the fourth point at number one singles, with Garcia cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win over LeBrun.
That's when things turned on the Beacons, as the Corsairs won eight consecutive sets, en route to the final four points of the match and a 5-4 victory.
UMass Boston will travel to Curry College Tuesday afternoon for a 3 p.m. non-conference match.
