Men's Tennis Downs Southern Maine for Conference Victory

BOSTON, Mass. – For the first time since 2008 men's tennis walked away from their match with the University of Southern Maine (6-2, 1-1 Little East) with a conference win.  On Sunday the Beacons (7-2, 2-1 Little East) capped off a great weekend as they handed the Huskies a 6-3 loss at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts.

The Beacons wasted little time taking control of Sunday's conference match as they jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play.  David Hernandez (Bogota, Colombia) and Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) got the day off to a great start as they defeated their conference opponents by the final of 8-1.  Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass.) then earned a hard fought 8-6 win at second flight.

Moving into singles play Loyer cruised to a win at second flight with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Zach Caron.  Shavers was the next Beacon to earn a win, as he defeated Jonathan Sproul by the final of 6-4, 6-1 at fourth flight.

Lai also earned a solid win with a 6-2, 6-4 decision at third flight.  Hernandez capped off the Beacons second conference win of the year with an extremely close 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 win at first flight.

Men's Tennis returns to action on Tuesday when they host Salem State University at 3 p.m. in a Little East Conference match at BC High School Tennis Courts.
