Men's Tennis Records First Conference Win

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With a clean 3-0 sweep in doubles play and four straight wins in singles competition men's tennis (6-3, 1-1 Little East) cruised to their first conference win of the year as they defeated Rhode Island College (1-10, 0-2 Little East) by the final of 7-2 Saturday afternoon.

The Beacons opened Saturday's Little East Conference match with an 8-1 win at first doubles.  They then pulled out back-to-back 8-3 decisions at second and third doubles to take the early 3-0 advantage.

From there it was all UMass as Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at second singles. Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) was next in line for the Beacons with his 6-2, 6-3 victory.  Seth Shavers (Boston, Mass.) pulled out an impressive and hard fought win at fourth singles with a final of 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4).  Lyle Analetto (Belmont, Mass.) capped off the win with his 6-0, 6-2 win at fifth singles.

The two matches that went to Rhode Island College were back-and-forth battles as they were both decided in tie-breakers.

Men's Tennis returns to action tomorrow when they host the University of Southern Maine at 1 p.m. at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts.
