KISSIMMEE, Fla. – On the final day of their spring trip, men's tennis (3-1) continued to roll as they earned a solid 6-3 win over the College of State Island late Friday evening at Star Island Resort.
Looking to close out the week on a great note the Beacons earned the convincing win with a pair of wins in doubles play, and back-to-back wins at second and third singles and fifth and sixth singles.
Getting the afternoon off to a great start was Charles Lai (Boston, Mass.) and David Hernandez (Bogota, Columbia) who defeated their competition by the final of 8-3. Himanshu Dubey (Lucknow, India) and Lyle Analetto (Belmont, Mass.) also claimed a huge win as they defeated their Staten Island opponents by the final of 8-4.
Moving into singles play and leading by one the College of Staten Island actually tied the match at 2-2 with a win a fourth flight. The Beacons would then notch four straight wins to secure the victory. The first came at fifth flight when Analetto earned a 6-3, 6-3 win over Oscar Wu.
At the third flight it was Lai who earned a solid win over Riad Hamai, 6-3, 6-3. Dubey and Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, Mass.) were both winners in their respective matches as Dubey claimed a 6-1, 7-5 victory and Loyer a 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) win.
Dropping an extremely tough match was Hernandez, who battled back and forth with Staten Island's Nick Zikos. Zikos would earn the win with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (8-6), 10-7 decision.
Men's Tennis returns to action next Saturday when they travel to Newbury College for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference match.
