NEW YORK, New York – It was a very busy day for the women's tennis team as they faced a pair of opponents, first taking on Farmingdale State University then York College (NY) to close out their two-day trip to the “Empire State”.  Against Farmingdale the Beacons fell by the score of 8-1, while against York the Beacons dropped their closest match of the year so-far falling to the Cardinals by the final score 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

In their first match of the day MaKenna Arrigo (Yarmouth Port, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth) and Anitra Kloczewiak (Newton, MA/Newton North) were the lone winners against the Rams as they won their first doubles match by the final score of 8-6.  The second match of the day, saw Arrigo and Kloczewiak record their second win of the day at first doubles.  The duo defeated their opponents by the final score of 8-0.

After back-to-back wins by the Cardinals to make it 2-1, Kloczewiak opened up singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.  York then recorded two wins to make it 4-2.  Juniors Wendy Steinman (Dudley, MA/Shepherd Hill Regional) and Hieu Nguyen (Dorchester, MA/Archbishop Williams) would tie the score at 4-4 with their 6-2, 6-0 and 6-0, 6-4 wins.

Unfortunately, the Cardinals earned the decisive game-winning point to take the victory from the Beacons.

Women's tennis returns to the court on Wednesday when they make their home debut against Lesley College at 3 p.m. on the Boston College High School courts.
