UMass Boston alumnus, men's soccer All-American and Assistant Coach Marcelo Cunha '18 was named the new Equipment Coordinator in December of 2022.
As the Equipment Coordinator, Cunha will be responsible for the issuance, maintenance, and upkeep of the equipment and gear for the university's 18 varsity sports. He will oversee all daily operations of the room and a student worker staff. He will also serve as the primary contact for all uniform and equipment orders and manage important relationships with our apparel vendors.
Cunha, who will continue to work with the men's soccer team as an assistant coach, steps into this role following the well-deserved retirement of UMass Boston Hall of Famer Myles Berry. He comes to us after recently serving as the Operations Manager for New England Surf and serving in previous stints as the Assistant Regional Director for Real Boston FC and Head Coach, Academy Coordinator for Classic Elite Soccer Club.
As a player, Cunha led UMass Boston to back-to-back-to-back Little East Conference Championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016. He was a member of the only team in program history to ever advance to the "Sweet-16" of the NCAA Tournament. A 2016 United Soccer Coaches All-American and two-time All-Region honoree, Cunha recently helped the Beacons to the program's fourth conference title as a member of the Beacons coaching staff.
Cunha graduated from UMass Boston in 2018 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science.
