John Pagliarulo

John Pagliarulo was named the Associate Director of Athletics for Recreation at UMass Boston in August of 2015 bringing with him more than twenty years of experience in the collegiate recreational setting.

As the director, Pagliarulo is responsible for promoting and advancing all facets of the recreation program, including fitness and wellness and intramurals.   Over the last five years, the recreation program has seen tremendous growth with more than 7,500 student members and 300 faculty/staff.  Pagliarulo is credited with creating innovative and inclusive programming that provides students with a sense of belonging, cultivates lifelong fitness habits and promotes multi-cultural awareness. 

A veteran of collegiate recreation programs, Pagliarulo came to UMass Boston after a 12-year career at Division I Boston College, where he served as Associate Director of Athletics for Campus Recreation.  During his time on the Chestnut Hill campus, Pagliarulo oversaw all aspects of BC’s recreation department.  He developed, analyzed, controlled, and monitored an operating budget of over two million dollars.  He oversaw all capital improvement projects, and implemented goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for campus recreation.

From 1991-2000, Pagliarulo served as the Aquatics Manager at BC, and was responsible for overseeing a large student and part-time staff.  While serving as the manager, he was responsible for maintaining all aspects of the facility, as well as developing new and innovative programs. 

Pagliarulo worked in the Boston Public School system, and taught in a variety of capacities.

A graduate of Boston College, Pagliarulo earned his bachelor’s degree in Marketing in 1991.  He then earned his master’s degree in in Business Administration in 2001 from BC.
