Andrew Castagna serves as the Assistant Director of Recreation at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he oversees Member Services, Marketing & Communications, facility operations, and recreation technology systems.
With more than a decade of experience in campus recreation, Andrew is passionate about creating a welcoming and inclusive recreational experience that promote health, wellness, leadership, and community for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members.Â
A native of Westerly, Rhode Island, Andrew earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Mitchell College and a Master of Arts in Critical and Creative Thinking from UMass Boston. Throughout his career, he has led initiatives focused on enhancing the member experience, improving operational efficiency through technology, expanding student employment opportunities, and strengthening partnerships across campus. He enjoys mentoring student employees and helping them develop professionally while creating meaningful experiences through recreation.Â
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys staying active through rugby, running, pickleball, and exploring the outdoors. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he currently competes with the Boston Irish Wolfhounds Rugby Club and serves as President of the Mitchell Old Boys Rugby as well as aiding in the colleges’ Alumni Association, where he helps strengthen alumni engagement. He also enjoys traveling and visiting campus recreation centers around the country to learn from peer institutions and bring innovative ideas back to UMass Boston.Â
