Amanda Alioto joined UMass Boston in September 2023 as the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Academic Success. In her role, she provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all academic support services for UMass Boston's undergraduate student-athletes, and serves as the department's NCAA Diversity & Inclusion Designee.
Alioto is responsible for the design, implementation, and day-to-day management of comprehensive academic programs that promote retention, eligibility, and timely progress toward degree completion for UMass Boston's NCAA Division III student-athletes. Since arriving on the Harbor campus, she has helped guide the Athletics Department to its highest cumulative student-athlete GPA in over a decade.
Alioto oversees the Athletics Academic Policy and the Athletics Care Team, monitoring academic performance, eligibility, and retention through institutional case management systems and data analytics. She advises student-athletes on academic planning, degree progress, and university policy, and she serves as the primary liaison between Athletics and Undergraduate Admissions, partnering with enrollment leadership and coaching staff on recruitment strategy. She also oversees a portfolio of assigned varsity sport programs, providing leadership and operational support for head and assistant coaches.
Beyond her academic and administrative responsibilities, Alioto leads the department's Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging initiatives, developing educational programming and partnering with campus stakeholders to build an inclusive student-athlete experience. She also represents Athletics on the university's Care Team, coordinating academic and personal support strategies for student-athletes in need of intervention.
Prior to joining UMass Boston, Alioto spent more than two years at Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts, where she held several roles across admissions and athletics. She served as Director of Transfer and International Admissions and as Associate Director of Admissions, working closely with senior leadership on recruitment strategy and serving as liaison between Admissions and Athletics. She also served as an Assistant Softball Coach for the Bison, supporting practice planning, recruiting, and academic monitoring for student-athletes, and began her time at Nichols as an Admissions Counselor, reviewing applications and recruiting prospective students. Alioto also spent time as an On Site Event Coordinator for X-Cel Global Sports/Spartan Combat, handling merchandise, event branding, and sponsorship coordination.
A member of NCAA Division III Softball leadership circles since 2016, Alioto served as a Nichols College Softball Mentor from 2019 to 2021.
