Paul Erne returns to UMass Boston for his sixth season as an assistant coach with the Beacons in 2024.
Erne enjoyed a fantastic collegiate career between UMass Boston and Endicott College. The California native spent his first two years on the Beacons' harbor campus, where he started in 28 of his 36 appearances. He recorded two assists during his time with the Beacons and played a big part in leading the Beacons' to their first-ever Little East Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships in 2015.
In his final two years with Endicott College, he played in 26 games, while making seven starts for the Gulls. He wrapped up his collegiate career with four assists in 62 career games.
Since graduating Endicott in 2016 with a degree in Sports Management, Erne has worked with the Albion Pros and the Valeo Football Club.
While with the Albion Pros in 2016, a professional soccer team in San Diego, California, Erne served as an intern in the marketing department. He helped establish partnerships with local businesses, was in charge of game day operations and wrote articles about the Pros and their opponents.
Erne returned to Boston in 2017 and worked as a coach and administrator with the Valeo Footbal Club from 2017-2019. He was is in charge of training, organizing and managing two teams per season and conducts daily training sessions to help develop youth players technical and tacticial abilities.
He took one more trip out of the area from April 2019-July 2020, when he worked as the Director of Football Operations for FC Breitenrain Bern in Bern, Switzerland. FC Breiternrain Bern is a professional soccer team that currently plays in the third division of Switzerland soccer. They finished the 2019-20 season in ninth place (out of 16 teams) and were one of two teams to have been on top of the table at any point before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In August 2020, Erne returned to the U.S. and took over as the Director of Marketing and a Head Coach with the New England Surf Soccer Club.
