Ozzie Brown enters his third season as the head coach of the UMass Boston men's and women's cross country and track & field programs in 2026-27.
Over his first two years, Brown helped mentor Aryianna Garceau who put together a record-setting career on the track that included consecutive indoor national championships in the 60 meter hurdles (2025, 2026) and consecutive outdoor national championships in the 100 meter hurdles (2025, 2026).
As a team, the women's program posted third-place finishes at both the Little East Conference Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships in 2024-25.
The men's track & field team posted a fifth-place finish at the 2025-26 LEC Indoor championship meet and has registered several strong performances across multiple events over the first two seasons of Brown's tenure.
Both the men's and women's cross country programs have registered numerous impressive times during the 2024-25 and 2025-26 campaigns and look to continue that momentum moving forward.
Brown came to the harbor campus after most recently serving as an assistant coach for the Men's and Women's Track & Field teams at Bucknell University (NCAA Division I).
He brought 15 years of college coaching and recruiting experience to UMass Boston and has coached 14 NCAA Division III All-Americans, worked with programs that have produced 9 NCAA Division III National Champions, and mentored 18 student-athletes who have qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships.
Before Bucknell, Brown was the Head Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland, from 2019 to 2021. While at McDaniel, Brown coached student-athletes to program-record times in the 60m, the 60m hurdles, and the 4x200m relay. He also served as the Diversity and Inclusion liaison for the Athletic Department.
From 2017-19, Brown served as the inaugural head coach of the Men's and Women's Track & Field teams at the University of Scranton in Scranton, Pennsylvania. In this role with a fledgling program, he exceeded recruiting goals by working closely with admissions for recruiting and onboarding of student-athletes. As a USTFCCCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Coach, Brown also served as a Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Before Scranton, Brown was an assistant coach at Stevens Institute of Technology (2013-17), where he coached two-time national champion Gladys Njoku in the high jump and his women's team placed 4th in the 2016 Division III Indoor National Championships. He also had coaching stops at St. Lawrence University (2011-13), Moravian College (2009-11), and Gwynedd Mercy University (2008-09).
A decorated student-athlete at Moravian, Brown was the 2008 NCAA Division III Champion in the decathlon and indoor long jump. He was also a four-time All-American and a 30-time conference individual and relay champion, including 13 titles in one year while competing in the Landmark Conference.
Brown earned his bachelor's degree in business at Moravian in 2010.
