UMass Boston

Social Media Policy

UMass Boston has an active and engaged faculty, staff, and student body, and increasingly we are turning to interactive ways to connect and share information online. The university encourages its faculty, staff, and students to use tools such as social media to advance their work and heighten their experience at UMass Boston. To assist and provide direction when using social media, UMass Boston’s Office of Communications has developed the general guidelines that can be found here.

Furthermore there are set guidelines with the Athletics Department that all coaches must abide by when having ownership of a team social media account.

  • All social media accounts that are created as a UMB official sport page must be registered with the Sports Information Office.

  • The head coach is required to provide the login and password to the Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Communications. Should the password change, the head coach is required to let the Sports Information Office know.

  • UMB social media accounts should be created using the head coach’s UMB email.

  • These social media accounts are not the personal account of the head coach.

Should a team account be managed by a student(s) please be aware that as the head coach you are accountable and responsible for all account content.

All logins and passwords MUST BE submitted to the Assistant AD for Sports Communications, and the Sports Information Assistant.

If your team social media account(s) is/are not in compliance with the above policy please you will be notified and the changes must be made immediately, NO EXCEPTIONS.
