A student-athlete may become ineligible to compete for several reasons, such as failing to meet academic requirements, violating team or university policies, or not adhering to specific NCAA regulations. When a student-athlete is deemed ineligible, it is essential for them to work closely with available support staff, coaches, and the compliance officer to resolve any issues and restore their eligibility. The focus should be on addressing the root cause and ensuring long-term success in both academics and athletics. During a timeframe when a student-athlete is ineligible, the following will apply:Â
- Zero participation in athletics practice, competition, or official team meetings/events
- Zero access to team locker rooms or the varsity weight room Â
- Zero extra benefits received (i.e. no team gear, meals, equipment, etc.)Â
- Zero transportation or travel with the team for any reasonÂ
- Zero participation in an Athletics related student group (such as SAAC) as the student-athlete should focus on their academicsÂ
- No new features or posts on athletics or team social media accounts as well as athletics related articles or promotions, starting with the date the student-athlete becomes ineligibleÂ
An ineligible student-athlete is permitted to have access to the following resources:Â
- Full access to the Assistant AD for Student-Athlete Academic Success with mandatory regular meetingsÂ
- Full access to the Sports Medicine staff and Athletic Training room for rehabilitation and health care resourcesÂ
An ineligible student-athlete may partake in the following voluntary activities:Â
- Voluntary practice, open gym, etc. Â
- Voluntary team community service which occurs on campusÂ
- Voluntary team fundraising which occurs on campusÂ
- Attending an athletics competition in the stands as a spectatorÂ
Regarding the roster status of an ineligible student-athlete, please consider:Â
- ARMs roster status – this may vary depending on the season of participation for the student-athleteÂ
- The ineligible student-athlete will be removed from the athletics website until their eligibility is restoredÂ
If an ineligible student-athlete is named as a manager of the team, to perform coaching duties only, the same stipulations above would apply. There would be zero athletics participation/play, team travel, or extra benefits associated with the position. Â
