Competition Season vs Noncompetition Season
- When choosing days/times to lift during the non-traditional season, ideally choose lifts on the same day as a practice. This will allow lifts to be required and reduce confusion for the student-athlete between mandatory and voluntary.
- Doing this will allow transparency for the four days of athletically related activity that may occur in any one week. (Non-Traditional Season)
- If you choose to lift on a scheduled practice day, then we must follow Bylaw 17.02.1.1 Athletically Related Activities.
Voluntary lifts are lifts students wish to schedule on their own with the strength coach outside of the declared practice days/season.
- If your program plans to lift on a non-scheduled practice day, the program must meet the criteria of Bylaw 17.02.14 for voluntary athletic related activities and no coaching staff may be part of these activities.
- In-Season teams have first choice, pre-season choose second, off-season teams pick third.
- Each team will choose lift times at the beginning of the semester.
- Fall semester (Fall sports – Winter sports – Spring sports)
- Winter Season (Winter sports – Spring sports – Fall sports)
- Spring Season (Winter sports/Spring sports – Fall/Winter sports)
- During the cross over period, defined as the time period when one competitive season (fall/winter or winter/spring) overlaps another, the team whose season is ending may have to change their lift times for an in-season team.
Operating Hours for Lifting Slot:
- Morning time slot 6:45am to 7:45am
- Practice time slot
- Evening time slot (5pm or 6pm)
The first ten (10) days of the fall semester for spring and winter teams will be open for one-hour lifts only for those individuals that are both cleared medically and by compliance.
- To use the varsity weight room during this time student-athletes must have all paperwork turned in to compliance and the athletic trainers. If a student-athlete does not have the required documents, they cannot lift in the varsity weight room.
- The athletic trainers and the assistant AD for compliance will check eligibility every morning and a daily list will be provide to the Director of Sport Performance.
- Staff will NOT be certifying student athletes in the middle of the day for lifts. If they are not cleared the student athletes will need to go to the coach.?
- Athletes are responsible for this clearance, if they are not cleared it is the student athlete’s responsibility to figure out what is needed.
- Coaches must be clear with student-athletes the difference between mandatory vs voluntary lifts.
