Voluntary Workouts
For an athletically related activity to be considered voluntary, all conditions outlined in bylaw 17.02.19 must be met.
For voluntary workout sessions with a certified strength and conditioning coach, please reference bylaw 17.02.1.1.1.4 for more information.
Student athletes may request to participate in voluntary workouts during the academic year outside their declared playing and practice season with the strength and conditioning coach if it is initiated by the student athlete, the head coach is not made aware of the workout or who did or did not attend, and it is deemed voluntary by the student. Student athletes cannot require fellow athletes to attend, and head coaches cannot be involved in these voluntary workouts. Voluntary workouts cannot be posted to team social media accounts, but once these are posted to an online social media outlet, it is no longer seen as voluntary with the NCAA and can result in a secondary violation. More information on this can be found under voluntary workouts in the student athlete manual.
If students would like to reserve athletic facilities for voluntary workouts during the academic year, they will need to follow the reservation policy with athletics as well as facilities and reserve the space through 25Live or personally contact the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities with the understanding there may be other reservations for facilities previously in place. These reservations need to be during the traditional academic year (winter breaks, summer break, weekends and holidays are off limits due to safety reasons). Student athletes may use student athlete-only facilities, such as strength and conditioning facilities, for voluntary workouts at any time. Please reference bylaw 17.02.1.1.4.1 for more information regarding strength and conditioning facilities for voluntary workouts.
For additional information on voluntary activities please see bylaw 17.02.1.1.1.2 for information on fundraising and bylaw 17.02.1.1.1.5 for leadership programming. All relevant information lies in the DIII Compliance Manual.
