Operations Manual - Sportsmanship

The Little East Conference and New England Hockey Conference Codes of Conduct are considered integral parts of UMB policy for all athletes and coaches. 
 
LEC Sportsmanship Award  
 
Established for the 2021-22 academic year, the LEC Sportsmanship Cup is awarded to the institution that best exhibits sportsmanship, as determined by their peers in the areas of conduct of student-athletes, coaches and spectators, and interactions with event management and operations. 
 
The following is to be considered: 
 
Game Management • Team is greeted by specific individual and shown to locker room • Administrators and game personnel are friendly and respectful – before, during and after the contest • Host athletic trainer connects with visiting team • Sportsmanship message is read. Positive signs of good sportsmanship • Staff available and effective in dealing with crowd control/fan issues • PA and webcast announcers appropriate in broadcasting contests 
 
Visiting Teams • Respect for host institutions facilities (ex. Locker room, bench area, meeting spaces, etc.)  
 
Coaching StaffExhibit outstanding sportsmanship – respects officials; addresses issues with SA’s if it occurs 
 
Student-Athletes • Student-athletes are under control; do not talk back to officials; demonstrate respect for opponents; appropriate language at all times 
 
Fans • Positive support of their team; no evidence of badgering officials or opposing players” 
 
Upon conclusion of a team’s season the SWA will gather each team’s feedback during the end of season meeting for this award and submit to the conference office.
