Deferrals For New Students (freshmen and transfers)
- Financial Aid and Admissions will be continuing with our established deferral process.
- Students who wish to defer can complete the
deferral form and submit a $25.00 non-refundable fee. The form is submitted to Undergraduate Admissions. They are working on converting this to a DocuSign form so the link will be updated on the web shortly.
Please note, students are allowed to defer for a maximum of one year from their original acceptance date. A student may NOT defer if attending another college/university, or if s/he has been accepted by the College of Nursing and Health Sciences.
The following applies for financial aid and merit scholarships, so long as they meet the deferral criteria:
· Merit Scholarships: Awards can be reinstated for up to one year.
· Financial Aid: Spring financial aid awards are held for students who defer from fall to spring. Students who defer to another academic year will have financial aid eligibility determined based on the results of the corresponding Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Financial Aid did stress to have student athletes reach out to their financial aid advisor with specific questions based on their personal situations. In all cases, students should be encouraged to reach out to any office that can help them understand their options.
They can call be reached at:

Returning Students looking to Withdraw
- Contact the Registrar office for questions for returning students who might find withdrawing in their best interest email
Registrar@umb.edu
- A returning student who wants to withdraw, can resume their studies any time, as long as they are in good academic standings when they withdraw. When they fill out a withdrawal form, there is an option on the form that they can indicate when they want to return/readmit (within a year only). (again make sure if you are doing this, you reach out to the merit scholarship office prior to withdrawing to understand your scholarship status when you return)

- NCAA Eligibility: 10 semesters full-time clock/4 Seasons of Eligibility
- As long as the team participates in 50% or less of the maximum competitions for that sport due to COVID-19 and the student-athlete was eligible for competition, the institution can self-apply the two-semester/three-quarter extension for the student-athlete. Participation in the non-traditional season would not negate this. Therefore, if a student-athlete enrolls full-time and we are unable to sponsor 50% of the season, the student-athlete would not be charged a full-time semester on their NCAA 10-semester clock.
- The NCAA allows student-athletes 4 seasons of competition in 10 full-time semesters. Once a student-athlete/team participates in a game they have used a season of eligibility. Due to the Corona Virus, the NCAA has approved a waiver to teams that participate in less than 50% of their season. If we are unable to host 50% of your season, you will not be charged with a season of competition for the 2020-21 academic year. If your team participates in more than 50% of your season and you practice after the first game and don't receive a medical hardship, you will be charged a season of eligibility on your 4 season of eligibility clock.
- NCAA Eligibility: Flexibility to define playing season by days:
- The Division III Management Council approved a proposal to allow schools and conferences to have flexibility in conducting and/or continuing fall sports practices and competition into the spring to allow the possibility of flexibility in playing seasons for sports.
- The Playing and Practice Seasons Subcommittee recommended the proposal, which waives current bylaw parameters and allows schools to define the playing season by a certain number of days instead of weeks, and those days do not have to occur in consecutive weeks. The measure applies to all sports and eliminates the distinction between traditional and nontraditional segments.

- The NCAA continues to closely monitor COVID-19 and is taking proactive measures to mitigate the impact of the virus. When it comes to decision-making, our commitment is this: protect the health and safety of college athletes. Here is a

Eligibility for practice if approved by the school:
- If the school allows us to host practices or on campus training, all students would have to be enrolled full time in a least 12 credits, student athletes enrolled less than full time will not be able to participate. If you are a returner you will need to be enrolled full-time (12 credits) eligible after the 19-20 academic year and have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. New transfers will need to be enrolled full time (12 credits) and meet a transfer exception from their last institution and lastly new students enrolled full time (12 credits).
