BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 12, 2026) – The UMass Boston women's volleyball team swept Rochester Institute of Technology 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-20) at the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium on Saturday, improving to 6-1 overall and extending their winning streak to four matches. The Beacons out-served RIT nine aces to three, and never trailed after navigating a competitive opening set.
» Set 1 (25-22):
The opening set was the most contested of the afternoon, featuring seven tie scores and four lead changes. UMass Boston held firm through the back-and-forth stretch and closed out the set on the right side of a 25-22 final, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
» Set 2 (25-18):
The Beacons took command in the second set, improving their hitting percentage to .211 and pulling away from RIT, who managed just a .054 clip on attack. UMass Boston's serving pressure — nine team aces on the day — began to take hold as the Beacons built a decisive margin.
» Set 3 (25-20):
UMass Boston saved its best offensive performance for last, hitting a match-best .244 in the third set to close out the sweep. Five tie scores early gave way to a Beacon surge, and RIT could not recover. The 3-0 victory was sealed at 25-20.
BY THE NUMBERS:
- Paige Coulson (Marriottsville, Md.) led UMass Boston with 11 kills on a .219 hitting percentage, adding three service aces — tied for the match high — and 11 digs for a double-double. The senior outside hitter enters the week as the team's kills-per-set leader at 3.24 kills per set this season.
- Josie Becker (Westchester, Ill.) was the Beacons' most efficient attacker, posting six kills on a .455 hitting percentage with one solo block and two block assists. The senior middle blocker leads UMass Boston in total blocks on the season with 12.0.
- Audrey Cofield (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Kaitlyn Leberstien (Wilmington, Del.) shared setting duties, each recording 14 assists. Cofield added three service aces — tying Coulson for the match high — while Leberstien contributed eight digs and one ace.
- Addie Blomgren (Riverside, Ill.) was errorless on attack, recording five kills on nine attempts (.444) with one solo block and one block assist. Her efficient performance helped fuel the Beacons' match-best .244 hitting percentage in the third set.
- As a team, UMass Boston registered nine service aces to RIT's three and held the Tigers to a .085 hitting percentage for the match, including a flat .000 in the first set.
