BOSTON, Mass. — UMass Boston Women's Hockey delivered a commanding 5-1 victory over Vermont State University Castleton on Friday at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink, using a four-goal second period to pull away in the Little East Conference matchup. With the win, the Beacons move to 12-6-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first period, the Beacons ignited in the second. Maggie Lynch started the scoring and assisted on a second goal, while Shea Nolan made it 2-0. Avery Brooks followed at 13:55, finishing a setup from Lily Hayes, and Cadence Kelly capped the period with a late tally to push the lead to 4-0.
The Beacons extended their advantage early in the third when Darby Rounseville scored at 3:14, with assists from Jenna Fitzsimons and Adrianna Kelsch. Castleton got on the board with a power-play goal from Morgan Arscott midway through the third, but UMass Boston's defense shut the door the rest of the way.
Veronika Hadamovsky anchored the Beacons in goal, making 32 saves on 33 shots for a .970 save percentage and holding Castleton to a single goal. Cassidy Morrison provided a relentless attack with 12 shots, and Mia Boyd finished with an assist and a plus-3 rating.
