NORTHFIELD, Vt. — On Friday, Feb. 13, the UMass Boston women's hockey team faced off against No. 3 Norwich University in a Little East Conference matchup at Kreitzberg Arena and fell 5-1, moving to 13-7-2 on the season.
The Cadets struck first just two minutes into the game, but the Beacons responded quickly thanks to a powerplay goal by Jenna Fitzsimons (Ashland, MA.) who finished a play set up by Maggie Lynch (Quincy, MA.) and Grace Lynch (West Roxbury, MA.) to bring the two teams level into the first intermission.
Norwich controlled play in the second period, netting all three goals in the second frame to go up 4-1. Geena Cookinham was the lone goal scorer in the third to give the hosts the 5-1 win.
Despite the final score, the Beacons showed a determined defensive effort blocking 18 with Adriana Crepaldi, Gianna Skrelja, and Mia Boyd leading the team with 3 each. Leah Bosch stood strong in net making 38 saves.
