NEWTON, Mass. (Oct. 17, 2026) – The UMass Boston Beacons field hockey team (0-13, 0-3 LEC) fought hard for all 60 minutes, but came up just short in a 2-0 setback against the WestConn Wolves (9-7, 2-2 LEC) on Saturday at the Charles River Campus of UMass Amherst.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Wolves were able to get on the board just over three minutes into the game as Ellenoire Schoen fired one home following a penalty corner. UMass Boston quickly fought for an equalizer as shots for

Much of the second quarter was played in the midfield and Smolinski recorded one save as it remained a 1-0 game at halftime.
Smolinski stood tall in the early stages of the third period as WestConn had three penalty corner and the first-year goalie denied a shot by Madison Preston in the 35
th minute. The Wolves added a goal from Erin Frank with just over a minute left in the stanza to extend the lead to 2-0.
UMass Boston put together a strong fourth quarter and had several quality opportunities offensively including a chance by
Meghan Krockta (Taunton, Mass.) in the 52
nd minute that was cleared away for a defensive save by WestConn's Kaitlyn Biase.
Delaney Williams (Duxbury, Mass.) recorded three shots alone in the period for head coach Kellie Stigas' team.
