Russell, Yancey Post Career Nights as Volleyball Sweeps Colby-Sawyer

BOSTON, Mass. (Oct. 14, 2026) – First-years Lily Russell (Bourne, Mass.) and Nevaeh Yancey (Dorchester, Mass.) both posted career nights as the UMass Boston Beacons volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of the Colby-Sawyer Chargers in a non-conference match on Wednesday evening at the Clark Athletic Center.

The Beacons are now 12-7 overall on the year, while the Chargers sit at 8-12.

Russell recorded a career-best eight service aces and Yancey delivered a career-best 12 kills.

Wednesday marked the program's annual Breast Cancer Awareness match.

Set One (25-6, UMB)
Colby-Sawyer registered the first point of the match before a service error sparked an 11-point run for the Beacons that included four service aces by Russell. Following a Chargers kill, the hosts then took the next seven points to extend the lead to 18-2 and never looked back in the 25-6 victory.

Set Two (25-21, UMB)
The Chargers led 8-5 in the early stages of the second set before UMass Boston captured six of the next seven points and a Mya Perron (Beverly, Mass.) kill made it 11-9 for the time being. Though Colby-Sawyer was able to cut the lead to one on three occasions, Russell came through with consecutive service aces to stretch the lead to 17-13. Perron then helped finish things off with two late kills in the 25-21 win.

Set Three (25-11, UMB)
A kill by Adele Accelus (Longmeadow, Mass.) gave the Beacons an early 3-2 edge and marked the start of a staggering 14 consecutive points. Yancey tallied three kills during the run and helped open up a 16-2 lead. Colby-Sawyer was unable to get any closer than 10 the rest of the way and Addie Blomgren (Riverside, Ill.) delivered a kill to clinch the dominant victory.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
Yancey's 12 kills led the way offensively, while Blomgren added six. For Yancey, the Dorchester, Mass., native also added seven digs and a season-high five service aces.

Blomgren tallied six kills of her own and Audrey Cofield (Ypsilanti, Mich.) distributed 23 assists throughout the match.

Russell's eight service aces are the most in a match by a UMass Boston player since Toni Guerra recorded eight against Dean on Sept. 18, 2024. They are also the second-most in a single match by any Little East Conference (LEC) player this season.

The Beacons recorded 17 service aces as a team, which is the most in a match since recording 19 against Vermont State Castleton on Oct. 29, 2022.

Cofield and Yancey led the defensive effort with seven digs apiece and Blomgren tallied three total blocks.
