Beacons Roll to 4-1 Victory Over VTSU Castleton Behind Jordao Brace

BOSTON, Mass. (Oct. 10, 2026) — UMass Boston men's soccer rolled to a dominant 4-1 victory over Vermont State University Castleton at James Cotter Field on Saturday, with first-year Gabriel Jordao (Bellingham, Mass.) netting a brace and the Beacons setting a season high with 26 shots to move to 5-5-1 overall and 2-2-1 in Little East Conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Beacons controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting VTSU Castleton 26-5 and building a commanding 3-0 advantage before halftime. UMass Boston's four goals matched the team's season high and the 11 combined points — goals plus assists — set a new 2026 season high, surpassing the previous mark of four set against Bridgewater State on Sept. 3.

Jordao got the Beacons on the board in the 15th minute, converting a pass from Toby Prabhu-Schlosser (Brookline, Mass.) to open the scoring. UMass Boston continued to press, generating 13 first-half shots, and extended the lead in the 43rd minute when Idman Hodzic (Bosnia & Herzegovina) finished off an assist coming off a shot from the crossbar by Gustavo De Paula (Framingham, Mass.) to make it 2-0. Moments later, Ryan Lima (Minas Gerais, BR.) stepped up and converted a penalty kick in the 46th minute, pushing the Beacons' advantage to 3-0 heading into the break.

VTSU Castleton pulled one back in the 55th minute when Jacques Alfani finished off an assist from Nate Lurie, but UMass Boston answered emphatically. Jordao sealed the result in the 73rd minute, collecting an assist from John Arruda (Espirito Santo, BR) to complete his brace and restore the three-goal cushion at 4-1.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Jordao's two-goal performance tied the 2026 individual single-game season high in goals, a mark previously set by Cam Ramos (Goiânia, BR.) against St. Joseph's (ME) on Sept. 6. The first-year midfielder now leads UMass Boston with 24 shots on the season and is tied for second on the team with six points. Arruda, who led all players with seven shots, tied his own 2026 individual single-game season high in shots and now ranks second on the team with 23 on the year.

Rafael Gross (Minas Gerais, BR.) was relentless in attack, putting all four of his shots on frame for a perfect shots-on-goal conversion rate. Prabhu-Schlosser and De Paula each contributed assists, while Lima's penalty kick gave him two goals and six points on the season, tied for second on the team.

Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, BR.) stepped up for the Beacons, manning the goalkeeper duties for the full 90 minutes, earning his first career win as a keeper. UMass Boston also held a decisive 10-2 advantage in corner kicks, generating sustained pressure throughout.
