Palmer Scores First Career Goal in Beacons' Win Over Gators

Box Score

Boston, Mass. (Sep. 6, 2025) --- On a blustery afternoon at BC High Stadium, the UMass Boston Beacons edged out Russell Sage College 1-0 in a tightly contested match that remained scoreless for over an hour.

The breakthrough came in the 69th minute when UMass Boston capitalized on a misplayed goal kick by the Gators. After regaining possession in the attacking third, Sofia Schallmo found Ashely Palmer, who struck a one-timer with her left foot. The ball sailed perfectly over the goalkeeper's head and into the net — marking the first goal of Palmer's collegiate career and giving the Beacons a 1-0 lead they would not relinquish.

In net, freshman Janiya Matier recorded her second career shutout, making a personal-best six saves to preserve the victory.

The Beacons outshot the Gators 12-10 overall, though Russell Sage held a narrow 6-4 edge in shots on target.
