Historic Season Comes to an End for Women’s Tennis in NCAA Tournament First Round

Middlebury, VT. (May 9, 2025) — The UMass Boston women's tennis team capped off a historic 2024-25 season with a hard-fought effort in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Tournament, falling to nationally ranked #14 Babson College, 4-0, in Middlebury, Vermont.

The Beacons finish the year with an impressive 14-3 overall record, including a flawless 9-0 mark in Little East Conference play. Their dominant run secured a third consecutive LEC Championship title and NCAA Tournament appearance — a testament to the team's continued rise as a regional powerhouse.

Doubles action saw the Beacons battling a strong Babson squad, with Lydia Chan (Quincy, Mass.) and LEC Singles Player of the Year Zainab Patel (Ahmedabad, India) leading the way in the top flight. Elena Albano (Haverhill, Mass.) and Shreya Saravana Rakshana (Bengaluru, India) competed in the #2 position, while Sandra Watson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Tatiana Malone (South Dennis, Mass.) took the court at #3 before their match was left unfinished.

In singles play, Zainab Patel competed at #1, Lydia Chan at #2, and Ayonna Stuppard (Randolph, Mass.) at #3 for UMass Boston while the #4, #5, and #6 contests were unfinished.

Though the season concludes in the national tournament, the 2024-25 campaign will be remembered as a historic milestone for UMass Boston women's tennis — marked by championship success, individual accolades, and continued growth on the national stage.
