Baseball Cuts Corsairs Matchup Short Due to Fog

BOSTON, Mass. (April 22, 2025) – A seven-inning fog-shortened contest at Monan Park saw UMass Boston (21-10, 9-4 LEC) hold a one-run lead for most of the afternoon, but a late push from UMass Dartmouth (14-13, 7-4 LEC) edged out the Beacons in a 6-1 decision on Tuesday afternoon.

Senior Tristan Ciampa (Wilmington, Mass.) was strong in his start, tossing five no-hit innings and facing just 19 batters. He allowed two runs—only one earned—and struck out five in one of his sharpest conference starts of the season. Hunter Ward (Nashua, N.H.) and Logan Lawrence (Taunton, Mass.) each pitched an inning in relief during the sixth and seventh.

The Beacons struck first in the opening frame when Nick Farnacci (Farmingdale, N.Y.) came home on a grounder to short from Richard Williams (Georgetown, Mass.). Mariano Jimenez (Waltham, Mass.) helped extend the momentum in the following inning with a one-out double. Farnacci added another hit in the third, before Reed Burkett Schneider ripped a two-out double down the left field line in the fifth for the Beacons' final hit of the game.

UMass Dartmouth capitalized late, scoring five runs in the sixth including a three-run homer, and the go-ahead run in the seventh before the umpires called the game due to low visibility on the field.

What's Next:
The Beacons return to Monan Park tomorrow, April 23, for a non-conference matchup against Babson College (RV), with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.
