Beacons Dominate Spartans in 8–1 Victory

WEYMOUTH, MA (April 15, 2025) – The UMass Boston men's tennis team improved to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in Little East Conference play with a dominant 8–1 win over Vermont State University Castleton on Tuesday afternoon at the Weymouth Tennis Club.

The Beacons claimed victories in 5-of-6 singles matches and swept both doubles contests to secure the conference win.

Dominik Dwyer (Dedham, Mass.) opened the match with a three-set battle at first singles, prevailing 7-6 (7-4), 6-2. Victor Xu (Bolton, Mass.) followed with a straight-sets win at No. 2 (6-1, 6-0), setting the tone early. James "Tiger" Li (Quincy, Mass.) and Joseph Malone (Dennis, Mass.) wrapped up the singles slate with back-to-back straight-set wins—Li earning a 6-3, 6-0 victory and Malone closing his match 6-2, 6-2.

In doubles, Dwyer and Xu teamed up for a dominant 7-1 win at the top spot, while Maxwell Dill (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Shrenith Saravan Rakshana (Bengaluru, India) secured the second doubles match with a strong 7-5 performance.

With the 8–1 final, the Beacons moved back to .500 on the season as they continue to climb the LEC standings.

What's Next:

UMass Boston returns to action on Thursday, April 17, on the road in Springfield, MA, against Western New England University in non-conference play. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
