AUBURNDALE, FL. (March 19, 2025) – The Beacons' baseball team (8-3) dropped a low-scoring contest to the University of Scranton (6-5) on Wednesday afternoon by a final score of 8-3 from Auburndale, FL.
It was a staff day for the Beacons' pitching crew, as they used nine different pitchers in the effort. First-year Connor Curtis (Mansfield, Mass.) started on the mound for the Beacons and dealt two innings of action against 11 batters. Angelo Centrone (Bethel, Conn.) led all pitchers with two strikeouts against nine batters. Graduate Max Moss (Manhattan, N.Y.) pitched a scoreless, hitless fourth inning and struck out one of the three total batters he faced.
How it Happened:
Scranton University sprang out to six early unanswered runs to begin the first three frames. They scored one run on two hits in the first, two runs on two hits in the second, and three runs on four hits in the third.
Jacob Levine (Easton, Mass.) dug in to drive home the first UMass Boston run in the fourth inning when he singled to center field, allowing Justin Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.) to score safely. Elliot Miles (Portsmouth, N.H.) drove in another run, following Levine with a sac-fly to left field, scoring Mike Meagher (Marston's Mills, Mass.) on the tag-up.
Graduate Richard Williams (Georgetown, Mass.) drove in Mariano Jimenez (Waltham, Mass.) for the final UMass Boston RBI of the day with a grounder to second base.
By the Numbers:
Six total Beacons recorded a single hit in the effort. Williams, Levine, and Miles were the only Beacons to record RBIs.
Jimenez stole one bag, and Breon Parker (Springfield, Mass.) stole two, as the leading baserunners to risk it on the path for UMass Boston.
The Beacons turned two double plays in the effort.
The Beacons will play their final Spring Break game against the University of Johns Hopkins on Thursday (Mar. 20) at 12:30 p.m., as UMass Boston looks to head back home on a high note before their Little East Conference opener against the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans.
