PROVIDENCE, R.I. (February 24, 2025) -- The Beacons' first-year guard Raphel Laurent (Peabody, Mass.) concluded his rookie season in admirable fashion, earning his fifth Little East Conference Rookie of the Week award for his performance in the Beacons' season-finale victory over the Vermont State University Castleton Spartans, on Wednesday (Feb. 19).

In the Beacons' Senior Night victory, Laurent led all scorers with 21 points (9-17 FG, 3-4 FT) including four rebounds, one assist, one block, and one steal in 28 minutes of action off the bench, as UMass Boston outlasted the Spartans from the Clark Gymnasium to help secure the conference four-seed and home court advantage in the first round of the LEC Tournament.

With this week's recognition, Laurent submits an impressive rookie campaign. He averaged 12.9 points per game, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. He recorded a season-high 26 points against the Plymouth State Panthers. Through his play this season, Laurent was recognized as LEC ROTW five times as one of the top-recognized rookies in the conference.

Expect Laurent to be a top contender for the LEC Rookie of the Year award, with the announcement for major award winners being released following the tournament's conclusion. 

Laurent and the Beacons' men's basketball team will play host to the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday (Feb. 25) at 7:00 p.m. in the first round of the LEC Tournament.

As per the LEC Championship format this season, all tournament broadcasts will remain pay-per-view, with single-game passes available for $10$, 20$ all-tournament passes for all five tournament games for one sport, and 40$-50$ all-tournament passes. More information can be found here.
