Men’s Hockey Hosts Huskies for Final Push of Regular Season

Boston, MA (Feb. 20, 2025) --- The UMass Boston men's ice hockey team hosts the Huskies of Southern Maine for two games this weekend. Heading into the last weekend of regular season action, the Beacons currently sit in 9th place in the standings with 21 points, one point behind Elmira for the 8th seed.

Beacons: 9-13-1 (Overall), 7-10-1 (Conference) 

Huskies: 6-16-1 (Overall), 3-14-1 (Conference) 

Series History 

The Beacons hold the advantage, winning 9 of their last 10 games against the Huskies. In those 10 games, the Beacons outscored the Huskies 49-14. The last time these two teams met was in 2024 when the Beacons won by a score of 4-1. In that game, four different Beacons tickled the twine enroute to the win with Jacob Kaminski securing the game winning goal. 



Beacons 

  • The Beacons are coming off two must have wins over Albertus Magnus last weekend on the road. 

  • Michael Krupinski has been named as a semifinalist for the 24th annual Joe Concannon Award presented to the best American-born player at the D-II/III level in New England. This season Krupinski has 3 goals, 10 assists, and 26 blocked shots (3rd on the team). 

  • Jack Mortson leads the team in points with 20 through 23 games played. 

  • Kolye Bankauskas and Mortson are tied with the team lead in goals with 10 on the season.  

  • Tyler Bost has been a steady presence in net holding a .910 save percentage and 3.12 goals against average. 



Huskies 

  • The Huskies put an end to their seven-game losing streak when they defeated the Spartans of Vermont State University Castleton on February 15th. In that game Nick Nault scored the unassisted game-winning goal while shorthanded. 

  • Matt Sullivan leads the team in points with 14 through 16 games played. 

  • Kyle Penton and Mason Palmer have both seen action in net with Penton recording 13 starts in 15 games played, a .912 save percentage, and 3.46 goals against average. 

Other Games to Watch 

The Soaring Eagles of Elmira College will host Vermont State University Castleton for their final two regular season games of the season. Castleton currently sits in 9th with 11 points and will look to play spoilers to Elmira who currently claim the final playoff spot with 22 points. In 7th is Albertus Magnus with 24 points. They will be playing 6th place New England College (26 points) in what will be two exciting games as well.
