BOSTON, Mass. (Nov. 5, 2025) — Ryan Doherty's first career hat trick couldn't have come at a better time, as the UMass Boston Beacons powered past Rhode Island College 4-1 in the Little East Conference (LEC) Semifinals.
The Beacons struck early, taking the lead less than 10 minutes into the contest. Ryan Lima sent a ball into the box for Eduardo Chirico, who chipped it in with a no-look finish off his back foot to give UMass Boston a 1-0 advantage.
UMass Boston doubled its lead 10 minutes later when Doherty converted a pass from Felipe De Andrade to make it 2-0. Doherty wasn't finished, and in the 29th minute he outpaced the Rhode Island College defense to a ball played back toward the Anchormen's keeper, touching it past the netminder and calmly slotting it into the back of the net to give the Beacons a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Doherty completed his hat trick in the 53rd minute, slipping behind the defense and finishing off a pass from John Arruda — his third assist of the season.
Rhode Island College managed to pull one back late, but it wasn't enough as the Beacons cruised to a 4-1 victory.
With his assist, Lima now leads the team with six on the season. Doherty sits second on the Beacons in points with 18 (7 goals, 4 assists), trailing only Arruda, who has 21 (9 goals, 3 assists).
