Salem, Mass. (Nov. 13, 2025) — Despite a career night from Cameron Perkins, the UMass Boston men's basketball team fell on the road, 91–86, in overtime to Salem State on Thursday in non-conference action. 

Perkins delivered a standout performance, scoring 47 points — the second-highest single-game total in program history, trailing only Toby Barros' 48-point outing against Western Connecticut in 2007. 

The game was tightly contested throughout, with UMass Boston holding a three-point lead at halftime. The Beacons trailed 74–71 with just over a minute left in regulation before two free throws by Davon Sanders cut the deficit to one with 43 seconds remaining. After Salem State answered with a pair of free throws to extend the lead back to three, UMass Boston forced overtime in dramatic fashion: with six seconds left, Clayton McLaren came up with a steal and fed Raphel Laurent, who drilled a three-pointer with two seconds on the clock. 

Perkins opened the scoring in overtime with a layup, but the Vikings closed strong, outscoring the Beacons 15–10 in the extra period to secure the win. 

Both teams finished with nine steals. UMass Boston held the edge at the free-throw line, shooting 84 percent to Salem State's 69 percent, but the Vikings had the advantage from deep, going 7-for-15 from three-point range. The Beacons hit just three threes, shooting 20 percent from beyond the arc.
