Boston, MA (Oct. 8, 2025) — The UMass Boston volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep over the University of Southern Maine Huskies on Wednesday night, improving to 2-0 in Little East Conference (LEC) play.
The Beacons came out strong in the opening set, hitting an impressive .450 with 10 kills and just one error. Their efficiency on offense, coupled with solid defense, led to a dominant 25-15 set win — the Huskies' lowest-scoring frame of the night.
Southern Maine showed signs of a rally in the second set, but UMass Boston maintained control and closed it out 25-20, never allowing the visitors to gain momentum.
Paige Coulson opened the third set with a kill, setting the tone for the Beacons once again. Eight errors by the Huskies contributed to a disjointed offensive performance, and the Beacons capitalized, sealing the match with a 25-17 win.
Coulson led UMass Boston with 10 kills, while Kesmyn Alves and Adele Accelus added five apiece.
The Beacons also impressed from the service line, racking up nine aces — four of which came from Mary Matthews.
Reigning LEC Setter of the Week, Audrey Cofield, continued to command the offense, totaling 27 assists — more than the entire Southern Maine team combined.
Defensively, UMass Boston controlled the net. Addie Blomgren posted a match-high seven blocks, followed by Josie Becker with three and Mikayla Cleary, who delivered a highlight-reel solo block.
