CASTLETON, Vt. (October 11, 2025) – Sophomore forward Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil) scored twice to lift UMass Boston men's soccer (6-3-3, 1-1-1 LEC) to a 2-1 road victory over Vermont State University Castleton (5-8-0, 0-4-0 LEC) on Saturday afternoon.
UMass Boston jumped out to an early lead behind a strong first-half performance from Chirico. The sophomore opened the scoring in the 10th minute after Jair Whyte (St. Johns, A.B.) sent a long cross from just past midfield that took a pair of deflections off Beacon headers. The final flick from John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) found Chirico in stride on the right side, where he settled the ball and slotted home his first of the match.
Chirico doubled the lead in the 24th minute, using his head to beat the Spartans' keeper for his third tally of the season. Toby Prabhu-Schlosser (Brookline, Mass.) created the chance with a skillful run down the wing, maneuvering past two defenders before delivering a pinpoint cross that set up the goal.
The Beacons carried a two-goal advantage into halftime, outshooting Castleton 10-5 in the opening 45 minutes. First-year goalkeeper Nolan McKenna (Norwell, Mass.) kept the Spartans off the board with four first-half saves, while Chirico led the attack with five shots, including four on target.
Castleton cut the deficit in the 66th minute, but that was all McKenna and the Beacon defense would allow, as UMass Boston held strong down the stretch to secure the 2-1 victory. The win capped off a 4-0 Saturday across UMass Boston Athletics.
UMass Boston men's soccer returns to action on Monday, October 13, traveling to Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, for a non-conference matchup against Swarthmore College.
