Brunswick, ME (Jan. 4, 2025) --- The UMass Boston Beacons challenged the no. 2 Polar Bears of Bowdoin College and nearly came back to Boston with a win, but a late flurry gave the Polar Bears the win, continuing their perfect season.
How it Happened
The Beacons got on the board first in the dying seconds of the 1st period. Avery Brooks carried the puck into the offensive zone where Margeaux Butters sent in a shot which was blocked. Rae Alexander was johnny on the spot scoring her first career goal and the first goal of the game.
Neither team would find the back of the net in the second period. Emma Merrill from Bowdoin would level the score just one minute into the third, but Cassidy Morrison and the Beacons had an answer, regaining the lead just two minutes later. Bowdoin pulled back even less than a minute after the Beacons second goal to level the score once again. The two teams would remain deadlocked until 14:18 on the clock when Luna Lu gave the Polar Bears their first lead of the game. Bowdoin would tack on an empty netter in the closing seconds to finish the game 4-2.
