BOSTON, MA (January 31, 2025)—The UMass Boston men's basketball team (9-9, 4-6 Little East Conference) heads south to Providence, R.I. on Saturday, February 1, for an LEC matchup with the Rhode Island College Anchormen (13-6, 8-2 LEC). The Beacons are seeking redemption following a nail-biting loss to the Anchormen in overtime (83-90) earlier this season.
On the road this season, the Beacons are 5-4, with their most recent win coming against Eastern Connecticut State Warriors on January 25. Against the Anchorman all-time, the Beacons are 37-47 and have taken 12 games in Providence, the most recent in 2020 (72-69). UMass Boston's most recent victory over the Anchormen came in January of 2024 in the Clark Gymnasium (64-50). The Beacons have nine wins this season, including four conference wins, five on the road, and three at home, while having survived two OT finishes against Vermont State University Castleton (89-85) and Colby Sawyer College (87-82). In the first meeting with the Anchormen this season, the Beacons recorded a season-high in free throws made (20).

Raphel Laurent (Peabody, Mass.) with 207 points (11.5 PPG). Graduate forward
Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) leads the team in rebounding with 15 offensive and 93 defensive for 108 total rebounds in 18 games. Barrett trails Zayas in total assists by just three (61-58) as a big man compared to Zayas, who plays the primary point position. As a unit, UMass Boston scores 75.9 PPG, and average 36.7 rebounds, 12.2 assists, 9.1 steals, and 3.6 blocks per game.
The Anchormen are scoring 79.5 PPG and average 45.5 rebounds, 15.7 assists, 6.6 steals, and 3.8 blocks per game. On the offensive end, the Anchormen are led by Ousmane Kourouma with 19.7 PPG, and Dwayne Robinson-O'Hagan with 16.7 PPG. Kourouma leads the effort on the glass with a LEC-high 15.5 rebounds per game. CJ Wilson is the team's primary guard with 3.8 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
