Beacons to Host 59th Annual Codfish Bowl

BOSTON, MA (January 2, 2025) – UMass Boston Athletics and the Beacons' men's ice hockey team are proud to be hosting the 59th Annual Codfish Bowl from the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink this weekend on January 3rd and 4th featuring visiting teams UMass Dartmouth, the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and Fitchburg State.

The Beacons seek a fifth Codfish Bowl Championship, their first in 10 years. In 2013-14, Coach Belisle led the squad to a 10-1 victory over Suffolk University in round one, followed by a 4-2 win over Salem State in the 2013-14 Codfish Bowl Championship for the Beacons' fourth and most recent Codfish Bowl title.

Last year, the Beacons hosted Worcester State University, Connecticut College, and Suffolk University. The Beacons would cruise past the Lancers of Worcester State (5-3) in round one before falling to the Camels of Connecticut College in the championship game (0-3).

This season, the Beacons (4-7-0, 3-5 New England Hockey Conference) will take on their Dartmouth counterparts, the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs (4-4-0, 2-2 Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference) in round one on Friday, January 4, at 1:00 p.m. The Corsairs enter the Codfish Bowl coming off three straight losses, two of which came in overtime. Their most recent win came against the Framingham State Rams on November 23 in a 4-2 road victory for the Corsairs. The Beacons started the season with some growing pains but are 4-2 in their previous six games heading into the Codfish Bowl. Their most recent win came on Friday, December 6, in a 6-3 offensive showcase against the Skidmore College Chargers. Pending Friday's results, the Beacons will play either the Fitchburg State Falcons (7-2, 4-1 MASCAC), or the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets (8-3-1, 5-1 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference). The Yellowjackets sit atop of the WIAC standings with a 5-1 record. Fitchburg State and UMass Dartmouth rival Plymouth State in the MASCAC, a team currently receiving votes on the USHCO.com Division III Men's Poll.

Junior assistant captain Jazz Krivstov (Santa Clarita, Calif.) leads all Beacons in points with 14 thus far off six goals and eight assists. Graduate transfer Tyler Bost (Mahwah, N.J.) has been the primary option between the pipes. In ten games played, Bost has posted a .908 save percentage, made 295 saves, and has recorded one shutout on his way to a 4-6 record.
