Zayas and Laurent Combine for 34 vs Corsairs

BOSTON, MA ( January 14, 2025) – Senior captain Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.) and first-year guard Raphel Laurent (Peabody, Mass.) combined for 34 of the Beacons' 74 points in their effort against Little East Conference opponents the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs on Tuesday evening from the Clark Gymnasium.

The Basics:
UMass Boston 74 – 93 UMass Dartmouth
UMass Boston: 7-7 (2-4 LEC)
UMass Dartmouth: 4-9 (1-4 LEC)

How it Happened:
  • Despite a slow start for UMass Boston in the first half, the Beacons outscored the Corsairs 48-42 in the second half. The Beacons' bench unit consisting of Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.), Davon Sanders (Mansfield, Mass.), and D'Anthony Amado (Brockton, Mass.) found a spark to their game and added depth to their experience against conference-level talent. Zayas and Laurent each had their way on both ends of the court for another significant scoring and defensive performance.
By the Box:
  • Zayas added 20 points, including two makes from downtown and was perfect from the free-throw line (6-6). He also continued to step up the intensity on the defensive end of the court with a team-high four steals.
  • Laurent continues to flourish in his role, with an efficient 14 points on 6-8 shooting, which included several physical finishes through multiple defenders. Laurent added five rebounds and two steals on the defensive end of the court.
  • Sanders added 10 points in 26 minutes off the bench, including two from beyond the arc. He also continued to make a difference on the glass with five rebounds.
  • Meczywor added five points, including a perfect trip to the free-throw line and another shot from downtown in a season-high 16 minutes.
  • Amado was given a season-high 13 minutes on Tuesday, and with those minutes, he poured in season-highs in points, field goals made, and three-pointers made.
Who's Next:
  • UMass Boston looks to bounce back on Thursday, January 16, as men's basketball continues the LEC regular season on the road against the Plymouth State Panthers at 7:00 p.m.
