Baseball Steps Up For #6 Nationally Ranked Salve Regina, Fall on the Road.

NEWPORT, R.I (May 2, 2024)— The Beacons' baseball team traveled south for a non-conference matchup against the number six ranked team in the nation the Salve Regina Seahawks, from the Hawks' home field in Newport Rhode Island on Thursday afternoon, as the Beacons stepped up to the plate against some of the nation's top talent, but ultimately fell short in nine innings.

As a team, the Beacons swung for seven hits including five RBIS in 34 plate appearances against the Seahawks. Senior Bostyn Burris recorded one hit in four plate appearances, a home run in the first inning. Also getting in on the victory lap action was junior Mike Meagher, as he sent a solo shot over the left field fence in the fifth inning, his first of the season. Senior Mike Gorham came across to score twice in three appearances at the dish, including an RBI and a walk. Also getting on for extra bases was first-year Elliot Miles, who recorded a double, and a sacrifice fly in three trips to the batter's box. Sophomore Max Garner recorded a triple in
the eighth inning.

The Beacons came out of the gates swinging, as they put the Seahawks on their heels in the first two innings following Burris' solo homerun, and Miles' sacrifice fly to spring out to an early 2-0 lead.

In the fifth inning, Meagher made his contribution with a solo home run to left field for the Beacons' third run of the contest.

In the eighth inning, the Beacons were able to put up two additional against the Seahawks for their final push of the game. The first came off the bat of Gorham, who singled up the gap to center field allowing home sophomore Reed Burkett-Schneider. The second, and final run came off Garner's triple to score Gorham from first.

The Beacons fall to 24-13 on the season, while remaining 13-3 in the Little East Conference, with the regular season finale scheduled for Sunday, May 5 against non-conference opponents the Babson College Beavers from Babson Park, Massachusetts.
