Men’s Basketball Seeks Fifth Consecutive Win Against RIC

BOSTON, MASS. (December 3, 2024) – The UMass Boston men's basketball team is set to host the Anchormen of Rhode Island College on Wednesday, December 4 at 7:00 p.m. from the Clark Athletics Center. The Beacons enter Wednesday hot off their first Little East Conference win of the season following first-year Cameron Perkins' dagger three-pointer against the Wolves of Western Connecticut State on Sunday, December 1.

  • The Beacons are 37-46 against RIC all-time, with the last meeting resulting in a 64-50 victory in favor of UMass Boston. In the last ten matchups, the Beacons and Anchormen are 5-5. On their home court vs RIC, UMass Boston is 25-17 and average a cumulative 73.4 points against them.
This Season:
  • This season, UMass Boston has gone 4-1 to open the gates. After dropping their first matchup against Salve Regina on the road (61-65), the Beacs have won their last four straight against Colby Sawyer (87-82, OT), Fitchburg State (59-58), Curry (101-72), and WestConn (83-82). UMass Boston is averaging 78.2 points (43% FG, 40% 3PT), 36.8 rebounds, and 13.6 assists per game. As a defensive unit, the Beacons are averaging 12 steals and four blocks per game. Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) was elected as this week's LEC Rookie of the Week following an average of 26.5 points and seven rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Beacons, including the game-winner over WestConn. Perkins is currently leading the conference in scoring as a true freshman with 25 PPG in four games played. Assisting Perkins on the offensive end is senior captain Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.), and sophomore guard Xavier McKenzie (Lowell, Mass.). Zayas contributes 15.2 points per contest along with a team-high four assists and three steals per game. McKenzie is just behind him with 14.8 PPG. Graduate forward Mark Barrett anchors the Beacs on the defensive end, leading the effort on the glass with 35 total rebounds (7 RPG) and a block, to go with seven PPG on the offensive side. First-year guards Raphel Laurent (Peabody, Mass.), and Davon Sanders (Mansfield, Mass.) have been solid contributors, combining for 10 PPG off the bench.
  • The Anchormen are 3-4 to start the season, with wins against Johnson & Wales University (JWU) (79-69), the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (82-65), and Bridgewater State (93-91). As a unit, the Anchormen average 74.6 points (44% FG, 28% 3PT), 40.9 rebounds per game, 15.9 assists, six steals and four blocks per game. Graduate forward Ousmane Kourouma leads the offensive charge for the Anchormen with 22 PPG, 2.6 blocks per game and an LEC-leading 13.3 rebounds per game. Senior guard Dwayne Robinson-O'Hagan chips in 16.4 PPG and a team-high 4.1 assists per game as the primary playmaker. Junior guard Isaiah Dahl is the leading floor-spacer, as he has knocked down a team-high 24 three pointers this season (24-55, 43.6%). Dahl leads the conference in 3PM per game with 3.4.
