Men’s Basketball Seeks Fourth Consecutive Win in Danbury

BOSTON, MA (November 30, 2024) – The Beacons' men's basketball team will seek their fourth consecutive win on Sunday, at 3:00 p.m. in Danbury, Connecticut, against the Western Connecticut State Wolves in the Little East Conference 2024-25 season opener.
Previously:
  • Historically, the Beacons are 18-49 against the Wolves with a 74.04 PPG average. In the last ten matchups against WestConn, UMass Boston is 2-8 and holds an away record of 6-30 against the Wolves. The most recent victory over the Wolves came in December of 2021, when the Beacons were victorious 69-63. The Wolves have taken the last five matchups against UMass Boston.
This Season:
  • This Season, the Beacons are 3-1 to start the year, defeating Colby-Sawyer (87-82), Fitchburg State (59-58), and most recently Curry College (101-72). As a unit, they average 77 PPG compared to opponents, who average 69.3 PPG. First-year standout Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) is leading the Beacons, and the LEC in scoring with 24.3 PPG. On the glass, the Beacons are averaging 37.5 RPG led by graduate Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) with 7.5 per game. Senior captain Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.) performs as the primary playmaker for the Beacons, averaging four assists per game to go with 15.5 PPG. Sophomore guard Xavier McKenzie (Lowell, Mass.), along with Zayas, are two premiere two-way players, with Zayas averaging nearly 16 PPG and a team-high 2.5 steals per game, and McKenzie averaging 14.5 PPG and 2.3 SPG.
  • The Wolves are 4-3 to start the season, with wins against Manhattanville (72-58), York College (91-62), Elms (82-49), and the City College of New York (CCNY) (86-69). Senior forward Jourdan Belcher leads the offensive prowl for the Wolves, averaging a team-high 13.4 PPG, to go with just under three rebounds a game. Junior forward Nick Boyce is in full command of the backboard for the Wolves, averaging a team-high 6.4 RPG. Boyce is also leading the defensive charge with 2.4 steals per game.
