Boson, MA (Nov. 30, 2024) --- The UMass Boston Beacons punched their ticket to the championship game of the Codfish Bowl after defeating the Valiants of Manhattanville College by a score of 5-3 Saturday. This marks the first time since 2021 that the Beacons will be playing in the championship game.Â
Â
How it HappenedÂ
Lily Hayes, assisted by Rae Alexander and Avery Brooks, got the scoring started at 9:38 in the first. Catrina Chinetti from Manhattanville pulled the Valiants even 2 minutes later, but it was short lived as Emily Hansen pulled the Beacons back in front before the end of the 1st.Â
The Beacons were outshot 32-25 overall, but made their opportunities count and forced Manhattanville to make a goalkeeping change in the 2nd frame. The Beacons were able to convert on 2 of their 10 shots to extend their lead to 4-1 before the Valiants converted their lone power play goal to cut the lead in half. Â
Lily Hayes added her second goal of the game in the third. With the goalie pulled, Manhattanville tacked on one more goal to bring the final score to 5-3.Â
