BOSTON, MA (November 25, 20-24) – The Beacons men's basketball team returns to action today, Monday, November 25, as they hit the road for a non-conference matchup against the Curry College Colonels at 6:00 p.m.
Previously:
- UMass Boston is 4-1 vs Curry historically. In the last meeting on November 21, 2023, the Beacons took an undefeated Curry team to overtime and lost on a heartbreaking buzzer-beater 77-79. On the road, the Beacons are 1-0 against Curry and cumulatively average 85 PPG.
This Season:
- The Beacons are 2-1 entering Monday's rematch against the Colonels. As a unit, they are averaging a gritty 69.3 PPG, compared to opponents' 68.3. In two games played, first-year forward Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) leads all Beacons offensively with 23.5 PPG. Senior captain Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.) is just behind him with with 15.7 PPG, to couple with 2.3 steals per game, and four assists per game. Graduate forward Mark Barrett (Brookline, Mass.) and Perkins lead the effort on the glass, averaging seven rebounds per game each. UMass Boston averages 12 steals per game, with four players averaging two or more per game: sophomore guard Xavier McKenzie (Lowell, Mass.), Zayas, Barrett, and first-year guard Davon Sanders (Mansfield, Mass.) each create problems for opponents on the defensive side. Last matchup against Fitchburg State, the Beacs registered season highs in steals with 17, and blocks with five, as the Beacons are beginning to settle into their style of play on both ends of the floor.
