BOSTON, MA (November 14, 2024) – The UMass Boston men's basketball team will return to the Clark Gymnasium on Friday, November 15 at 7:00 p.m. for the Beacons' home opener against the Colby-Sawyer Chargers in the fourth annual Black Coaches Classic. Prior to the Beacons vs Chargers matchup, Lesley and Brandeis will tip-off at the Clark Gymnasium at 5:00 p.m to kick off the annual event, aimed at recognizing the excellence provided by black leadership in sport.
Colby-Sawyer joins Lesley, Brandeis, Bowdoin, and Tufts as the newest program to participate in the event. This year the full schedule is as follows:

UMass Boston v Colby-Sawyer:
- The Beacons are 3-3 against the Chargers all-time, with the most recent game last season on November 18 resulting in a Colby-Sawyer dagger-three to ice the Beacons on their home court. Guards Emanuel Zayas (Hollywood, Fla.), Bobby Joy (Harwich, Mass.), and Carson Meczywor (Adams, Mass.) combined for 47 of the Beacons' 68 total points in the effort. The Beacons enter Friday looking to bounce back from a season-opening loss on the road against the Seahawks of Salve Regina (61-65). Zayas had 17 points, four assists, and three rebounds, along with first-year forward Cameron Perkins (Danbury, Conn.) with a game-high 22 points, and sophomore guard Xavier McKenzie (Lowell, Mass.) with 16 points. The new look offense for UMass Boston provided optimism for what's to come this season. On Friday, Coach Harris and company will get to showcase the skills for the first time from the Clark Gymnasium this season.
- Colby Sawyer has opened the season 1-1 with a season-opening loss to Salem State (64-89), and enter Friday following a close 80-76 victory over the Thomas College of Maine on Wednesday, November 13. Graduate guard Bryson Jenkins leads the chargers in scoring with 16.5 PPG. Senior guard Chaz Cullum recorded nine steals in 32 minutes vs Thomas.
