Boston, MA (Oct. 8, 2024) --- UMass Boston volleyball plays host to UMass Dartmouth Wednesday night at the Clark Athletics Center in LEC action, first serve scheduled for 6pm. The match will also serve as the Beacons LEC Undivided match. 
 

The Basics

UMass Boston 

• UMass Boston opened LEC play on Saturday, September 28th at Plymouth State University falling in straight sets. The Beacons rebounded in their next match vs Fisher College (Mass.) winning 3-1 with a lighter roster. 

• Lauren Westlund leads the Beacons in points with 127 on the season, 2.76 a set average. Just behind Westlund is Mya Perron with 121.5, and 114 kills. Toni Guerra has been a force at the service line with 26 service aces, right behind her with 23 is freshman Mary Matthews. 

• The Beacons were picked to finish 4th in the 2024 LEC Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll. 

• UMass Boston has taken on 2 teams ranked in the top 10 nationally – MIT and NYU. 

UMass Dartmouth 

• UMass Dartmouth opened LEC play with a 3-0 win over the University of Southern Maine. 

• Emily Pogorelec has been rolling in the LEC weekly awards, collecting her fourth LEC Defensive Player of the Week award. Rookie Olivia Seutter has been named LEC Rookie of the Week three times this season. 

• Kate Wade leads the Corsairs in points (266), points per set (4.16), and kills (225). Wade also has 31 service aces on the season. 

• UMass Dartmouth was selected 1st in the LEC Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll with 61 points and 5 first place votes. 

History 

• The Beacons and Corsairs competed twice last year with the Corsairs taking both games 3-0. 

• The last Beacons win came in 2022 where they won 3-2 on the road. 

• The Beacons have the advantage over the Corsairs 6-4 in their last 10 matchups.
