Men’s Soccer to Rock the Boat vs RIC Anchormen on Saturday

BOSTON, MA (October 4, 2024) – The UMass Boston men's soccer team will travel south to Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday for a Little East Conference matchup against the Rhode Island College Anchormen.
Previously
  • History dates the first matchup in 1981, where the Anchormen took the victory over the Beacons 3-0. Since then, UMass Boston has gone 21-23-3 against RIC, with the most recent meeting on November 2, last season, where the Beacons won 4-2 on their home field. The Beacons average 1.57 goals against RIC and, in the previous ten matchups, are 8-1-1 against the anchormen.
This Season
  • This season, UMass Boston has gone 3-1-4 (1-0-1 LEC) through their first eight games with victories against Salve Regina (2-0), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (3-1), and LEC counterparts UMass Dartmouth (2-1). As a unit, the Beacons are averaging 1.25 goals per game against 1 goal per game allowed. They are coming off a season-high in shot attempts after putting up 23 against UMass Dartmouth. Senior forward Josh DeAlmeida (Revere, Mass.) leads all UMass Boston goal-scorers with three tallies, one against Salve, MIT, and Bridgewater State. Sophomore John Arruda (Espirito Santo, Brazil) and first-year Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Brazil) follow Arruda with two goals. Senior defender Logan Erickson-Potter (Swansea, Mass.) and junior midfielder Elijah Elliot (Hope Tobago, Trinidad and Tobago) have been the primary playmakers for the offense, each providing two assists. Senior JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.) and graduate Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) share the duties between the pipes. In five games played and four starts, Devine has faced 23 shots and made 14 saves, allowing just three goals for a .86 goals against average and a .824 save percentage, and has gone 1-1-2 during his time between the pipes. Ramirez, in six games played and four starts, has faced 34 shots and made 20 saves against five goals allowed, good for a .800 save percentage and a 1.15 goals-against average. Ramirez currently stands at 2-0-2.
  • The Anchormen have gone a strong 7-1-1 (3-0 LEC) thus far, with big wins against Fitchburg State (6-1), Emerson (3-0), and Nichols (3-1). Through LEC opponents, the Anchormen defeated the Plymouth State Panthers (1-0), and the Eastern Connecticut State Warriors (2-1). Senior midfielder Anthony Recinos and junior forward Sekou Kamara lead the way for the Anchormen's offense with five goals each. Recinos also pioneers the midfield with eight assists this season. Senior goalkeeper Wesley Perrotto is the primary option between the posts, starting in seven games. Perotto has faced 101 shots this season, contributed 31 saves and allowed just seven goals for a 1.00 goal against average and a .816 save percentage. He is 5-1-1 this season, including two shutouts.
