Men’s Soccer Hits the Road for a Non-Conference Game vs Worcester State

BOSTON, MA (October 22, 2024) – The Beacons' men's soccer team will hit the road on Wednesday, October 23, for a non-conference matchup against the Lancers of Worcester State University at 7:00 p.m.
Previously:
  • The Beacons are 10-3 against Worcester State since 1980. Their most recent matchup last season saw the Beacs put up five goals to the Lancers' one. UMass Boston averages 2.62 goals per game and is 5-1 on the road against Worcester State. The largest margin of victory for UMass Boston was in 1984, when UMass Boston strung eight goals on the Lancers compared to Worcester State's one.
This Season:
  • This season, the Beacons are 7-1-4 (5-0-1 Little East Conference), have won their last five consecutive, and have won six of their previous eight unbeaten games. Against LEC opponents Keene State and Southern Maine, the Beacons strung up five goals in both games before tallying three more against Western Connecticut State in three straight shutouts. Graduate keeper Andy Ramirez (Waltham, Mass.) faces a familiar foe in his former squad on Wednesday, as he will enter the contest as one of the conference's top keepers. Ramirez is an unbeaten 6-0-2 in 10 games played. Against 54 shots, he has allowed only six goals (.76 goals against average) and made 32 saves (.842 save percentage) in 710 minutes played between the pipes. The Beacons have four forwards with four goals this season, as the offense has been abundantly fruitful. Senior Logan Erickson Potter (Swansea, Mass.) leads all Beacons in season points with 12 points through four goals and four assists. Erickson Potter recently earned his first LEC Offensive Player of the Week Award for a one-goal, two-assist week. First-year Eduardo Chirico (Minas Gerais, Bra.) also earned weekly honors with the LEC Rookie of the Week for last week's play. Chirico is currently second on the team in season points with four goals and three assists for 11 season points. Chirico most recently scored in the 3-0 win over WestConn and provided two assists in the 5-0 route over the University of Southern Maine.
  • The Lancers are 3-8-1 (2-2-1 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, MASCAC), with their most recent matchup resulting in a 1-0 loss against Framingham State from the Lancers' home field. At home, the Lancers are 0-3-1 and average .83 goals per game while allowing 1.92 per game. The goalkeeping responsibilities are divided between two first-years, PJ Schmidt and Sergio Torrado. In six games played, Schmidt is 0-5, and in seven games played, Torrado is 2-2-1. Torrado has registered two shutouts (against Fitchburg State, 3-0, and the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, MCLA, 1-0.). He has recorded 25 saves and has allowed three goals. The primary offensive threats for the Lancers include Sophomore Nick Guidi, and senior defender Mal Hawkins, each contributing two goals this season.
