Beacons Outpaced by Wolves on the Road

DANBURY, C.T. - With a long road trip to Danbury under their belts, UMass Boston Men's Basketball struggled to stop a prolific Wester Connecticut State offense, falling by a final score of 90-67 on Wednesday evening.

THE BASICS
UMass Boston 67, Western Connecticut State University 90

UMass Boston (5-14, 4-6 LEC)
Western Connecticut State University (15-4, 8-2 LEC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresh off of an electric shooting night at home against Eastern Connecticut, the Beacons came out firing from deep in the first half on Wednesday. Emanuel Zayas and Bobby Joy each knocked down early threes to keep the Wolves at bay. Hector Perez, who hit the game winning midrange jumper against Eastern, splashed three of his four three-point attempts, including the final shot of the half, which cut the WestConn lead to five.

Alex Woolery knocked down a pair of free throws to open the half, cutting the UMass Boston deficit down to three. That is as close as the score would be. Perez hit another three to cut the score to 49-43 with just over 14 minutes to play, but a 16-4 run from the Wolves made the lead insurmountable.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Joy finished the night 4-4 from the floor including 2-2 from three-point range
  • Perez' 14 points were good for his second double-digit scoring performance of the season
  • 42 of the Beacons 67 points were scored by their bench players
  • Zayas finished the night 10-10 from the free throw line
  • The Wolves have won 10 of the last 12 meetings between the teams

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Beacons will host Rhode Island College at the Clark Athletic Center on Saturday, January 27 for a 3 PM tip-off.
